The Japan Print Association (JPA) was established in 1931 (Showa Era 6). Saburousuke Okada was invited to be the chairman of the Association, which involved 28 members from "Sousaku Hanga Kyoukai". These members included: Kazuma Oda; Koushirou Onchi; Tsuruzou Ishii; Senpan Maekawa; Un-ichi Hiratsuka; Sumio Kawakame; and Kanae Yamamoto. Also involved were Sakujirou Okubo and Ken-ichi Nakamura, part of 4 members from "Youfuu Hanga Kyoukai",and 11 independence artists including Ryuzaburou Umehara; Kiyoshi Hasegawa; and Kenkichi Tomimoto.

Since June 1931 we have maintained activities without respite,except for the chaotic post-war term of WW2 in 1945 (Showa Era 20). As the greatest organization of all-print artists in Japan, we have left our marks on the world of modern print art with a big influence not only on domestic, but also on overseas print art trades.

Now the JPA has 187 members and 181 associate members, and we have organised the exhibitions of "The Exhibition Of The Japan Print Association" every year. Also, as a public recruiting division of "The Exhibition Of The Japan Print Association" we aim to scout for new talent. Addressing the point of recent print art expressions, we accept innovative new works in order to pursue the possibility of new forms of expression alongside more traditional techniques. To aid and nurture young print artists we have also been exposing their new, creative works to the world.
